Peterborough Town couldn’t quite manage the perfect day (August 24) as they lost to Barnack by 36 runs in a low-scoring Rutland Division One as the senior men were tasting glory in the National Twenty/20 competition.
Farhan Adil (4-26), who took nine wickets over the weekend, and Simon Gibson (3-5) bowled well for Town as Barnack were dismissed for 112. Mirza Yasir (47) top scored for Barnack and his innings proved crucial as Town crumbled to 75 all-out in reply. Shahid Mohammed (4-13) and Fisal Javed (4-26) were Barnack’s top bowlers - Gibson (20) top scored for Town.
As a result Town have dropped further behind leaders Uppingham with four matches to go. The top two do still have to play each other twice this season with the first meeting this Sunday (August 31) at Uppingham.
Reigning champions Bourne are third in the the table after demolishing March Town by nine wickets at The Abbey Lawns, although the losers did deliver the most impressive individual performance. Opener Stephen Shaw made 89 of his side’s 108 all out, a total Bourne passed in under 14 overs.
Chris Binns bagged 5-50 for Bourne. March have now joined Barnack in the relegation zone.
Captain Bashrat Hussain (4-26) and Andy Reynoldson (49 & 3-30) were Oundle’s best players in a five-wicket win over Nassington, while Wisbech lost a thriller by three runs at Eaton Socon.
Today’s (August 25) John Wilcox Trophy Final between Barnack and Oundle has been postponed. The final might now take place at Oundle on Sunday, September 21 as Barnack are due to visit Milton Road for a Division One match on that day.
