Six Stamford Striders took part in the first race of the Peterborough Grand Prix 5k series at Ferry Meadows on Wednesday last week.

Simon Fell led the Striders home with a personal best 16m25 to finish fourth overall in a field of more than 300, quickly followed by Jim Morris who was 11th in 16.52.

Mark Popple was third home, fourth overall with a time of 18.15 in the event hosted by Nene Valley Harriers.

He was followed by club members Keith Read (19.16); Steve Parker (19.17) and Dave Aust (21.30).

The next race in the series will be hosted by Thorney RC at Ferry Meadows, on June 19.

Meanwhile Vicky Old clocked a new personal best at the St Albans half marathon on Sunday (June 9).

She knocked almost three minutes off her personal best with 1h34m05 to finish fourth V35 and ninth lady overall in a field of 3,500.
