WAKERLEY and Barrowden suffered their first league defeat of 2011, with a 5-wicket loss against Easton-on-the-Hill in the Rutland League.
Batting first, Barrowden lost two early wickets, both taken by Grove on his way to taking four wickets for Easton, before Jonny White fell for 22 in the over before the drinks interval.
Despite Chris White (37) and Dale Howkins putting on 45 for the fifth wicket, Barrowden struggled to build partnerships with Lane picking up four wickets for the visitors.
Howkins reached his half century with a massive six before he was caught and bowled by Lane for 57.
Barrowden closed their innings all out for 192.
In reply, Jonny White picked up two early wickets for Barrowden but Easton always seemed in control, and 55 from Lane, including 5 fours and 5 sixes, took the game away from the home side.
Chris White bowled Lane with the first ball after drinks, and their were wickets apiece for Fraser Wright and Steve Chivers, but Easton reached their target for the loss of just 5 wickets.
Skipper Chris White said “It’s a disappointing defeat for us because I thought we did very well with the bat.
“Dale (Howkins) played brilliantly but we just couldn’t take the wickets when we needed to.”
Barrowden’s next match in the Rutland League is a county derby at home to Uppingham Town 3rd XI on Sunday May 8.
