Five-star Deeping off to fine start

RANGERS handed Premier Division new boys Rothwell Corinthians a baptism of fire as they outlined their championship credentials on Saturday.

It took just three minutes for summer signing Ashley Stevens to give Rangers the lead from a David Cobb cross and Dave Cornell added a second after 20 minutes, converting after Cobb's free-kick was headed back across goal.

The outcome was never in doubt once Cobb scored a third goal for Deeping five minutes before the interval, the wide man firing home from the edge of the box to round off a fluent move.

Skipper Lee Ellison put his name on the scoresheet a quarter-of-an-hour from time with the aid of a deflection before ex-Peterborough and Lincoln winger Ryan Semple marked his Rangers debut with an 86th minute goal from Ellison's through ball.
