A DANNY Barker strike handed Blackstones their first win in six games, at home to Boston Town on Wednesday evening.
Stones’ torrid league and cup run included last Friday’s 3-0 defeat at United Counties League leaders Peterborough Northern Star.
Jonathan Stead, Karl Gibbs and Dan Clements were on target that night but Blackstones were stronger at the back this week.
Barker’s low 20-yard strike came after 19 minutes and he almost scored a second after a powerful run but Chris Wright was well placed to save. Boston’s best effort was a Kieran Davies volley wide at the near post from a Gary Bull ball in.
Stones threatened after the interval with Robbie Pearce setting up Barker, and Elton Holmes drawing a save from the visiting keeper with a free kick.
Blackstones (v Boston): Lee Crockett, Jacob Smitheringale, Ben Porter, Matt Porter, Luke Hunnings, Steve Burns, Robbie Pearce (Ben Easson), Andy Boome, Elton Holmes, Billy Oliver, Danny Barker.
l Blackstones are at home to Wellingborough Town tomorrow. Kick-off at Lincoln Road is at 3pm.
Wellingborough enjoyed a fine start to the season but have slipped back in recent weeks to sit just below Stones in the table.
Stones travel to Spalding on Tuesday for a 7.45pm kick off.
