New Bourne Town manager Rafa Mazzarella celebrated his first league win on Saturday as his side finally got off the mark in the UCL Division One with a 2-0 victory away at Olney Town.
Goals by Henry Dunn and Jones De Sousa secured the three points for the Wakes.
Mazzarella said: “Waiting for that first league win had sapped the lads’ confidence a little bit, even though they were playing well.
“Now they know they are capable of winning games at a higher level.
“It has been a culture shock for some of them because they are used to winning at youth or reserve level.
“I thought we deserved to win on Saturday. It was a nice finish by Henry and then Jones got one on the break.”
However, the Wakes went down 2-0 to Thrapston Town on Tuesday night.
But Mazzarella was quick to see the improvements in his side’s display, despite the result.
He said: “The longer the game went on, the more they got frustrated.
“It’s hard to be pleased with a 2-0 defeat but I can see the maturity in the way the lads are sticking to a game plan.
“Thrapston are the best side we have played so far but we didn’t disgrace ourselves.
“We didn’t have a cutting edge on the break when we might have been a bit more threatening.
“But I’m sure that we will improve.
“As long as we are competing well then I won’t have any issues.”
The Wakes take on Potton United at the Abbey Lawn tomorrow.
