Bourne Ladies returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at Outwell Swifts on Sunday.
After the previous weeks 2–2 draw with Wisbech St Mary’s Yellows, Bourne face d another tough test against an Outwell side unbeaten in seven outings.
Bourne soon showed why they have been in the top three all season with Emma Ketteringham pulling off a stunning save, turning a fierce shot from close range over the bar to keep the score goalless.
Leading goalscorer Claire Lawrenson opened the scoring with a typical break away goal, smashing the ball past the Outwell keeper.
The away side doubled their lead midway through the first half when Bourne’s player-of-the-match, Benita Webster, reacted quickest to an Outwell goal kick and scored from 25 yards.
Bourne created several more chances in the first half and should have extended their lead but the half time score remained 2-0.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first with Bourne playing some excellent football against a strong Outwell side.
A number of chances went begging - the closest from Bourne’s Sophie Fisher, who crashed the ball against the cross bar from well outside the area - before Lawrenson put the game beyond the home side’s reach.
Lawrenson scored her second of the game and her 13th goal in all competitions with a fine strike, cutting in from the right and finishing with her left foot to ensure that Bourne took all three points.
