Bourne Ladies extended their unbeaten run to five games and moved to the top of the table with a 1-0 victory away against Whittlesey on Sunday afternoon.
Playing tidy football from the start, Bourne Ladies forced the home side’s goalkeeper into a series of fine saves during the first half and the game remained goalless at half-time.
The pattern of the second half was similar to the first, with Bourne failing to capitalise on all the good work their play deserved until, with the game entering the final 20 minutes, they scored the goal which proved to be the winner.
Claire Lawrenson broke down the right wing and played the perfect pass to Hannah Aaron just inside the area. The midfielder jinked her way past one defender and, with quick feet, finished with the outside of her right foot to score her first goal for the club.
The away side should have extended their lead towards the end of the game but they found the Whittlesey goalkeeper in fine form
Player of the Match, Benita Webster, worked tirelessly all game on the left, and with some fine defending Bourne kept their second clean sheet of the season
