Saturday’s PFA Senior Cup exit was hard to take , according to Uppingham Town skipper Martin Bennett.
Town lost 4-0 at Moulton Harrox in the Peterborough league’s competition, just days after going out of the Leicestershire league’s Jelson Cup at Aylestone Park - but it was the manner of Saturday’s loss that disappointed him most.
“Saturday’s was harder to take than Tuesday’s,” he said.
“We made mistakes for them to go two up at half time. We had a go at them but the third killed it off and the fourth was a bit of a freak goal.
As Rutland’s last representatives in the two competitions, the quarter final exits will force Town to focus the league where Uppingham have a good chance of climbing from 10th to a top five place if they win their games in hand.
“That was a big week for us,” added Bennett.
“It’s the buzz of being in the cup. Everyone wants to get to a final.
“The next game will be important for us. It would be a shame to slip down the table.”
