Stamford Daniels have reached the final of the Lincolnshire FA Senior Shield after beating Grantham 1-0 away last night (Tuesday).

Playing under the floodlights at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium in Gratham, the Daniels took the lead early on with a goal from Shawn Richards after just nine minutes.

A strong run into the box from Jordon Smith had the Grantham defence turned and the striker passed the ball to Richards to slot under the keeper.

Former Daniels striker Gregg Smith almost made it even before half time but his strike could only find the post.

Grantham continued to threaten the Stamford goal either side of the break.

In the second half the hosts again hit the post and Stamford keeper Will Jones was forced to make a good save with his leg.

The Daniels had to play five minutes of stoppage time before the final whistle blew and they could celebrate their place in the final.

Stamford now face Evo-Stick First Division South opponents Brigg Town’s in Lincolnshire FA Senior Trophy Final which will be played on Tuesday, April 29 at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank stadium.

Briggs Town beat Bottesford Town 2-0 in a semi-final on Tuesday last week to book their place in the final.

The cup final will kick off at 7.45pm.
