Daniels boss delighted by his side’s first display

The Daniels’ new boss Wayne Hatswell was delighted by what he saw in his first game in charge - a 3-1 victory at promotion-chasing Gresely on Saturday.

Stamford went behind in the fifth minute but secured the three points with an equaliser from Jake Gibson and a strike late in each half from their prolific marksman Ricky Miller.

Hatswell, who was appointed manager less than 48 hours before the match, said: “The response from the lads has been first class.

“This was a tough place to come and the players have picked themselves up from King’s Lynn (where Stamford were unlucky to lose 2-1 on New Year’s Day).

“The first 20 minutes we could not get going but most teams that come here will not have it easy.”

He added: “I watched the Kidsgrove game and a video of the Kings’ Lynn match and was impressed by the work ethic of the team.

“They have a very good understanding of each other and link up in the right areas. Ricky Miller worked very hard today and the longer the game went on we were going to create chances, and the back five were immense.

“It’s all about the players. We have another massive game coming up on Saturday and we need to prepare well during the week.”

Stamford host Leek Town at Kettering Road on Saturday. Kick off is at 3pm.
