Daniels boss quits Stamford

DANIELS boss Simon Clark rocked his side on Saturday by announcing his departure just minutes after guiding them to joint top of the Evo-stik League First Division South.

Stamford had battled to a superb win away at previous leaders Ilkeston with Lee Beeson and Sam Mullarkey on target for a 2-1 win. But joy surrounding that result was soon tempered by Clark’s announcement.

Clark will take over as Worksop Town manager - a side one division higher but just four places ahead of Stamford - and will take Daniels assistant Dave Frecklington with him.

Clark said: “It’s sad to leave but Worksop is a big club. I would not have left for a similar-sized club. It was too good an offer to turn down.”

Stamford have 22 points and seven wins from 11 league games and Clark added: “The club is in a fantastic position to go forward and have a very good season.”
