Stamford AFC are looking to win back-to-back Lincolnshire Senior Trophy titles tonight (Tuesday).
The Daniels tackle lower-league Louth Town at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank ground at (7.45pm kick off).
Last season Stamford beat Brigg Town on penalties after coming back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 and eventually lift the trophy.
The game will come as a welcome distraction from their Evo-Stik NPL relegation battle however it’s likely that the team’s management and fans will have one eye on matches taking place in the league at the same time.
Stamford sit in 21st place, the final relegation spot, and have played one game more than the teams around them. The big relegation battle fixture of the night is at bottom place Belper Town who face 20th place Frickley Athletic, who enjoy a one point advantage over Stamford as it stands.
Matlock Town are in 17th position but only two points ahead of Stamford so if they lose away at Blyth Spartans tonight that will keep them in the relegation fight, a win would likely see them pull out of the scrap.
Marine are in 22nd position and three points behind the Daniels but if they earn a surprise victory away at fifth place Curzon Ashton they would jump above them by virtue of points difference.
Stamford have two games remaining in which to scrape out of the relegation zone and the first is at league leaders FC United of Manchester on Saturday. If they beat Skelmersdale United tonight and Workington drop points they can win the league title against Stamford.
