Stamford Daniels have reached the final of the Lincolnshire FA Senior Shield after beating Grantham 1-0 away on Tuesday night.
Playing under the floodlights at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium in Gratham, the Daniels took the lead early on with a goal from Shawn Richards after just nine minutes.
A strong run into the box from Jordon Smith had the Grantham defence turned and the striker passed the ball to Richards to slot under the keeper.
Former Daniels striker Gregg Smith almost made it even before half time but his strike could only find the post.
Grantham continued to threaten the Stamford goal either side of the break.
In the second half the hosts again hit the post and Stamford keeper Will Jones was forced to make a good save with his leg.
The Daniels, who were wasteful in possession and where having to cut out danger all over the pitch, had to play five minutes of stoppage time before the final whistle blew and they could celebrate their place in the final.
Stamford manager David Staff said: “We are obviously pleased to get to a cup final.
“I certainly want to win something with this team this year. The players love playing in a final and we have a lot of loyal fans who will enjoy watching it.”
However Staff is not getting carried away. He said: “The game showed that in football you can do all you can but need a bit of luck.
“We rode our luck and are grateful to be in the final. We we will need to be better than that in an equally important game on Saturday.”
Stamford now face Evo-Stick First Division South opponents Brigg Town’s in Lincolnshire FA Senior Trophy Final which will be played on Tuesday, April 29, at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank stadium. Ko 7.45pm.
