Depleted Oakham lose at Crowland

A makeshift Oakham United team lost 2-0 at Crowland as the Rutland side struggles to shake off a recent dip in form.

Oakham enjoyed a superb start to the season but have won on just one of their last seven outings.

Oakham were not helped at Crowland by the loss Shane Hicks, Robbie Dance and Alex Brockbank, who were ruled all out through injury or illness, with the trio of Nathan Arkle, Pat Donlan and Will Lee also unavailable.

Joint boss Andy Saddington said: “The only way to get out of a bad spell is for the lads to train hard and be available for selection; then the players will turn it around.

“We lost four first team players on the Saturday morning and another two on the Friday. That makes it very hard to prepare.”

Saddington added: “Andy Collin came in and made some cracking saves, and George Maxwell and Carl Brierly-Lewis did well but we need our 15 strongest players available.

“I am sure we could have got something from the game at Crowland with a strong squad.”

To add to Oakham’s woes, Stu Lambie limped off in the first half, although he may be fit again for Saturday’s trip to Stilton.

“Hopefully we will have most of them back on Saturday. Brocky is the only one definitely out with a twisted ankle,” added the Oakham boss.

Oakham: Andy Collin, George Maxwell, Tom Bain, Stu Lambie (Danny Williams), Ben Cox, Carl Brierly-Lewis, Jamie Forbes, Eddie McDonald, Steve Smith, James Twose, Craig Welbourne.
