DEEPING Rangers took derby honours on Monday, beating Blackstones 2-0 at Outgang Road to extend their unbeaten league run to 14 games.
Blackstones limited Rangers’ chances in a low-key opening period, withstanding the threat posed by a side in excellent form. But after half an hour, Rangers’ pressure paid dividends. After good play between Alex Beck, Adam Weston and Matt Heron, Beck pounced on a loose ball to break the deadlock.
The goal lifted Rangers who suddenly found more space to create chances with David Burton-Jones and Matt Heron both going close.
Kev Gilbert’s shot was cleared off the line by Tim Quy on the hourmark with Heron’s follow up blocked by Matt Porter as Stones lived dangerously.
At the other end, Simon Mowbray and Luke Avis had Stones’ best chances but substitute Ash Stevens finally sealed the points for Deeping, tapping home deep in stoppage time after Josh Moreman’s fine run.
Rangers have three games left, beginning with Boston Town at home tomorrow, and manager Korkmaz is aiming for his side to remain unbeaten until the end of the season.
Delighted with his side’s clean sheet, he said: “It was not the best of games but I think in terms of chances we were worthy winners.
“It is always pleasing to keep a clean sheet regardless of whether it is a derby game or not.”
Blackstones, who have slipped to eighth in the UCL Premier Division, face Title-chasing Long Buckby at home on Wednesday evening.
