Royce Rangers U11s have a shot at the title when they take on Harborough in their final game of the season on Saturday.
The Oakham side are guaranteed runners-up spot at the very least. If they avoid defeat and results elsewhere go in their favour, the title will be theirs.
Coach Matt Smith said: “Whatever happens, it has been a great season and runners-up is the least the boys deserve for all of their efforts in a long season.”
Royce secured second spot with an impressive victory against Dunton and Broughton on Sunday.
They started the match in a lively manner and were four goals to the good after 15 minutes with strikes from Arron Altham, Zac Smith, Joe Chesman and Jack Darby.
Things then went horribly wrong as Royce took their foot off the pedal and started playing as individuals. By half-time the score was 4-3 with Royce looking second best in every department.
Whatever was said at half-time did the trick as Royce found the net six times in the second half with a further goal for Smith, a brace for Alfie Cornwall and three more for Darby as Royce eased to a 10-3 win.
