Langtoft 7 Thorney 1
LANGTOFT United put on a stunning display of football, scoring seven against Thorney as the sides returned to action after their break due to recent cold weather.
Thorney spent the first half pegged back in their own half with every man behind the ball but that did not stop United taking the lead on 15 minutes. Michael Woodcock scored from close range.
But despite all the pressure United applied to Thorney, Langtoft could only manage one more goal before half time, Dan Morris running through a crowd of players to make it 2-0.
Langtoft boss Ben Martin brought on three subs early in the second half, bringing on Billy Ponsford, Steve Ellis and Mickey Nolan and it took them just two minutes to add to the score.
Thorney could not handle Nolan’s lighting-fast runs and Ponsford tapped in his crossto extend Langtoft’s lead.
Ponsford ,who is just back from injury and playing his first football of the season, completed his hat-trick in 25 minutes and added two more before the final whistle.
Thorney scored a consolation on full time.
Langtoft boss Ben Martin said: “This has given me a major headache as I had some big players out today who will be back next week.
“I have 20 players who are easily good enough to start next week. Today was Billy Ponsford’s day. He was brilliant.”
