Uppingham Town skipper Martin Bennett reckons his side’s second half display against Parson Drove was the best they have played all season.

Bennett said: “It was quite an even game in the first half but in the second we were almost faultless. It was probably our best 45 minutes of the season.”

Uppingham went ahead when Ollie Webb’s cross was deflected in off a Drove defender in the first half but they were pegged back before the break.

Substitute Omar Elkashoty restored Uppingham’s lead when he reacted quickest after Rob Forster’s free kick was spilled by the visitors’ keeper.

Callum O’Berg sealed the points, bending in a shot from the edge of the penalty area after Uppingham had countered quickly.

Drove could also count themselves lucky not to be reduced to 10 men when O’Berg was hacked down on the edge of the area towards the end of the game.

Uppingham will play Leicestershire side Saffron Dynamo in the Jelson Homes Cup on Saturday after their Tuesday evening fixture was postponed. Kick off is at 1.30pm.

Uppingham: James Binley, Martin Bennett, James Coughlan, Rob Forster, James Howe, David Laughton, Jacob Norton, Callum O’Berg, Martin Turiccki, Stephen Wallhead, Oli Webb. Subs: Omar Elkashoty.
