COTTESMORE are already looking at their next two games as must-win fixtures as they search for a first win in the Leicestershire Senior League.
Amateurs lost 6-1 away against last year’s champions Rothley Imperial on Saturday leaving Cottesmore with just one point from five ahead of back-to-back games aagainst fellow strugglers.
Cottesmore play at Saffron Dynamo on Saturday and travel to Birtsall United on September 22, and Cottesmore joint boss Steve Duffy says: “Theses are must-win games, even at this stage of the season.
“There’s a long way to go but we have to start winning and could do with turning things around in these two matches.”
At Rothley, Amateurs matched their hosts for the first 45 minutes and could have taken the lead with a stunning Harry Stannard shot that came back off the woodwork. Shortly after that, Rothley broke the deadlock.
The hosts doubled their advantage early in the second half and although Cottesmore pulled one back after excellent work by Dave Gordon, who beat a couple of defenders to tee up Stannard, Rothley restored their two goal advantage and as Cottesmore tired, chasing the game, late on.
“We could have been one up at half time but suddenly found ourselves two down after the restart,” added Duffy ruefully.
“At half time we told the lads to keep it tight but straight from the kick off we gave it away a free kick and they scored. The scoreline flattered them but we gave the ball away to easily. We are not getting undone by teams but keep shooting ourselves in the foot.
“It’s disappointing but we have a few things to work on at training on Thursday.”
New players are welcome to attend Cottesmore’s training sessions which begin at 6.45pm at Rogues Park.
Cottesmore: Alex Brown, Danny Bomken (Mark Cowling), Ollie McCann (Gary Drake), Tom Spawton, Andy Teare, Ian Harrison, Dave Gordon (william Wells), Ben Kind, Andre Fontoura, Martin Smith, Harry Stannard.
