Stamford AFC have secured fourth spot and a play-off place in the Evo-Stik Division One South after a last-minute victory against Mickleover Sports this afternoon (Saturday).
Andy Hall scored on the 90th minute to seal a 2-1 victory and the Daniels now face Belper on Monday away.
Stamford had to win the match to secure fourth and a play-off spot after last Saturday’s loss to Loughborough Dyanamo.
The Daniels had the better of the first half, but went in at half-time 1-0 down after Mickleover scored a header from a corner.
Andy Hall had hit the post for Stamford in the second minute while Hempenstall, Jones and Miller all had chances.
In the second half Wright came on for Byrne and Saunders came on for Miller. The Daniels put the Mickleover goal under siege but still couldn’t find a way through.
Hempenstall had a chance and dinked the ball past the keeper but it was cleared off the line via the post.
The Daniels continued to press forward and finally got a breakthrough when Andy Hall found the net for Stamford.
The last quarter was filled with tension as Stamford searched for the all-important winning goal and at times the players were getting in each other’s way and making it over-complicated.
However Hall scored on the break in 90th minute just as it looked like Stamford may miss out on play-off football.
