“We are going out there to try and win it,” were the defiant words of Stamford AFC manager Graham Drury.

The Daniels take on League Two side Grimsby Town in the quarter final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tonight (Wednesday).

Drury said it’s a cup game and he wants to win it, despite the gulf between the sides in terms of the leagues they play in.

Drury put out eight new players in the starting team in the Daniels’ 3-0 loss against League One Scunthorpe on Friday, playing a more familiar side in the second half. Drury said the line-up for the cup game will look more like the second half side from The Iron match.

Drury said: “It will be more of a second half side against Grimsby, get them 60 minutes of fitness.”

Stamford have been working on set pieces, particularly corners, in training this week to give them more structure and “identity” in the match.

Drury said: “I am looking for us to show a little bit more in this game than against Scunthorpe.”

Grimsby come into the match having lost 4-1 in a pre-season friendly at North Ferriby United on Tuesday night.

However the Mariners put out a side missing several of their best players including skipper Craig Disley and Shaun Pearson, with one eye on the cup match.

The winners of this tie will play either Spalding United or Boston United in the semi-final.

Kick-off at the Zeeco Stadium is 7pm.
