German tourist side SV Oberkirch beat Rutland Vets 4-2 at Cottesmore last week with a little help from players from closer to home.
Short on numbers, the Germans were given a rather Anglicised look with a few local lads making up their numbers and it was one of these who handed the visitors an early lead.
Former Wimbledon and Scunthorpe midfielder Paul O’Berg beat England over-50s player Adey Stannard to a cross from Marcus Hoferer to put Oberkirch ahead.
But although Oberkirch looked the more dangerous, the hosts scored against the run of play with Darren Munton lifting the ball over Graham McNaughton to level.
O’Berg put the visitors back in front with a well taken lob before Hoferer put them in a commanding position with a scrappy goal going into half time.
In the second half, Hoferer capped a fine display by netting a second before Dave Quinn pulled one back with a well taken penalty.
