Deeping Rangers manager Michael Goode said he was confident going into last night’s FA Cup first qualifying round replay and he had every right to be as his team pulled of 4-2 victory over higher-league Leek Town.

The result means Deeping have now matched their best ever FA Cup run with a win over the Evo-Stik Northern League First Division South side.

Rangers made a dream start to the match, taking the lead through Scott Mooney in the first minute of the replay at the Haydon Whitham stadium, following a 2-2 away draw on Saturday.

There was drama a plenty after the break as Dan Shelley levelled the score in the 66th minute and just three minutes later Ash Jackson inched the visitors in front.

However this Deeping team is full of character, they fought back from 2-0 down on Saturday, and in the 83rd minute Mooney turned home a Dan Flack cross for 2-2 again.

Rangers had no need for extra time as Deeping took the lead with three minutes remaining. Coupland kept his terrific scoring run going with an excellent goal, driving between the defence and then beating the Leek Town keeper.

There was still enough time for Deeping to have a good penalty shout turned down when Mooney went down in the box and for Fraser Sturgess missed a one-on-one effort with Leek keeper Chris Martin.

The victory was sealed three minutes into injury time when Rangers substitute Jezz Goldson-Williams, who added a brilliant injection of pace when he came on, dinked the keeper to send healthy crowd of 214 wild.

The win sets ups another tasty home tie for Rangers who will host AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday, September 26.
