EIGHT girls from Stamford High School have been selected for the Midlands U18 Independent Schools football team after a successful trial recently.

Almost 30 girls from six schools took part in the trial in January when the girls were put through their paces with various drills and then played a series of matches against each other.

Stamford pupils Maria Davies, Annissa Zak, Emma Couzens, Lauren Rigby (all Year 13), Bethany Carnegie, Abbie Brewin (both Year 12), and Hannah Brewis (Year 11) all made the squad, with Genny Peck (Year 12) joining them as a reserve.

The Midlands’ team will attend the ISFA U18 Regional Tournament on March 18 at Malborough College.

Heidi Myles, Head of Girls’ Games at the school said “It is a fantastic achievement to have eight girls from Stamford High School in the squad of 18.

“We wish them every success at their up and coming tournament in March.”
