Winger Andy Hall scored a hat-trick as the Daniels beat Holbeach United 4-1 in a friendly match on Saturday afternoon.

The game, played on an artificial surface at Sleaford, was hastily arranged when both sides’ league fixtures succumbed to the weather.

New signing Ben Saunders got off the mark and Hall bagged three with two from the penalty spot.

Daniels boss Wayne Hatswell said: “It was a good workout and gave me the chance to look at the new players.

“It was a good competitive game. The lads have had the opportunity to have a rest and have come back looking lively.”

Striker Saunders signed for Stamford on Friday, joining from Evo-Stik Premier side, Grantham Town.

The 28-year-old won promotion with Grantham last season and Hatswell said: “He’s a player that has been on the radar for a while.

“He has a vast experience of this level and in the league above. He scored 41 in 137 games for Grantham prior to this season, so it shows the calibre of player we are getting.

“He was also the club captain at Grantham, and I believe this is a massive coup for the club.”

Hatswell believes the front man - expected to play alongside Alec Denton up front - adds more options to his strikeforce.

“I believe at this level you need a big strong player up front and it gives me a lot of adaptability with the formation that I want to play.

“The spine of the team has to be solid and I needed a player with a bit of experience. He will definitely provide us with a bit of fire up front.

“He’s won promotion at this level, and that is experience that not everybody has.

“He ticked a lot of boxes - he knows the level and he knows what it takes to get out of this division - I’m absolutely delighted that he has decided to come and join us.”

Stamford’s next match is at Market Drayton on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is at 3pm.
