Daniels boss Wayne Hatswell says Jordan Hempstall’s hat-trick rounded off a great Daniels display at Carlton, where they won 3-2 on Saturday.
“That’s a good three points,” said Hatswell. “It’s a tough place to go and they had beaten us earlier in the season so I’m delighted by the result.
“His first was probably the best but all three goals were excellent.
“It’s great for him and it capped a great team performance.
“I was a little disappointed by the goals we conceded. Once we were two up we should have put the tie to bed and at 3-1 we shot ourselves in the foot but overall it keeps that margin for the play-offs.”
Stamford next match is at second-bottom Romulus, who play on an artificial surface and beat the Daniels early in the season. The Daniels next match at Kettering Road is against Sutton Coldfield on March 2.
Hatswell’s squad has been boosted by the surprise return of Ricky Miller, who rejoined the club on Friday.
Miller scored 15 times for Stamford after joining in November but then moved to Southern Premier League outfit Arlesey Town in January. But the switch hasn’t worked out for the 23-year-old and he has completed a move back to Kettering Road.
Hatswell said: “It was a shame that Ricky left us in the first place. He has gone away and realised he wasn’t happy, and that’s no disrespect to Arlesey, he was going into a settled team and it was hard for him. He just didn’t hit the ground running.
“That said, we’ve got a player back who has done very well for the club in the past and we wanted to secure his services from now until the end of the season, which will give us added firepower up front.
“There’s competition for places now and that’s nice. Ricky’s under no illusions that he can walk straight back into the team, he has to fight for his place back in the team like any other player would.
“But we know what he can do and the fans know what he can do, which makes it a very positive signing. Especially on top of the other strikers who have joined the club in recent weeks.
“Ben Saunders has come in and given me a completely different option, which I wanted, and now I can vary that with Ricky coming back on the scene – the signing was a no-brainer really.
“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and we’re going to need everybody to pull together, it’s going to be a tough couple of months but hopefully a good couple of months.”
