Injuries take shine off Deeping’s haul

Newport Pagnell Town 3

Deeping Rangers 4

Deeping Rangers 1 St Ives 1

RANGERS capped a fine week with a home draw at St Ives on Tuesday after they had defeated Newport in a seven goal thriller on Saturday.

On Saturday, the home team took the lead before Scott Ginty levelled with the first of his brace. However a handball from Chris Logan five minutes before the break allowed Keith Williams to slot home a penalty.

But Josh Moreman turned the game with two strikes, his second was the pick when a team move that saw the ball passed a dozen times was ended with a stunning half volley on the turn.

Ginty’s second on 76 minutes gave Rangers some breathing space which proved to be required when Dan Lawless reduced the deficit late on.

On a freezing Tuesday night Deeping had to come from behind to claim a point against St Ives after conceding a fifth minute goal to Conor Washington. Moreman struck 20 minutes later to share the spoils.

Rangers manager Tuncay Korkmaz said: “It has been a very pleasing week. We have played against two of the better teams and got four points.”

However the week has been tainted by the heavy injury cost, with injuries to Matt Heron and Moreman meaning seven of the 15-man squad at Korkmaz’s disposal are injured ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Daventry.
