Bourne Ladies got their first taste of tournament football at the Keele International Football Tournament this week.

Bourne were drawn against Urmston Meadows (Manchester), Cambridge Regional College, Stockport County Reserves and EPS Ladies from Finland.

After a nervous start to the competition, losing their first game 2-0 to Urmston, Bourne beat Stockport County Ladies 1-0 with Claire Lawrenson scoring the wining goal.

They were unlucky not to take three points against a well-drilled team from Helsinki, Finland drawing 2-2 with Sammy Hawkins scoring from the halfway line and Lawrenson scoring her second of the tournament.

By the time the final game took place, the effort of the previous matches had started to take its toll. With no substitutes and a few injuries Bourne Ladies beat Cambridge 1-0 with another Lawrenson goal.

Bourne missed out on a semi final spot by the narrowest of margins. With an identical goal difference to EPS, Bourne were eliminated on goals scored.

Bourne Ladies train on Thursdays at Recreation Road from 6.30pm-8pm. For details call Tina Crawley on 07971 555710.
