LANGTOFT United Reserves, who were crowned Peterborough and District league Division Three champions weeks ago, had to settle for runners-up spot in the PFA Junior Cup on Saturday.
United’s reserves were beaten 4-0 by Leverington United Reserves - a side that they had beaten 2-0 just a week earlier in the league.
The defeat at Peterborough’s Chestnut Avenue was only Langtoft’s second all season but Leverington proved too strong on the night.
Tancel Ibrahim broke the deadlock midway through the first half, and things became more difficult moments later for Langtoft when defender Ben Collin went off injured.
Leverington doubled their lead early in the second half through Mariusz Kudyba and Adam Bunton struck the third before Ibrahim completing the scoring.
Langtoft’s evening was made worse by the dismissal of player-boss Andy Wilde for shoving a Leverington player just before Ibrahim bagged his second of the night.
Wilde said: “We felt there was a strong hint of offside about the second and third Leverington goals, but it was one of those days. We’ve still had a terrific season, winning the league and only losing twice.”
