Oakham United slipped down the PDFL Premier Division table on Saturday after they lost 3-1 away at Thorney.
After a blistering start to the season, Oakham have found goals hard to come by in recent weeks, drawing 0-0 with Peterborough Sports Reserves before this.
Saturday was just not Oakham United keeper Simon Dalton’s day. The normally reliable stopper got a piece of all three of Thorney’s three goals but could not prevent them going in.
The home side were 3-0 up at half time after a brace from Conor Pridmore and one from Sam Rayner.
The second half was a tale of wasted chances and off-target shooting.
Oakham carved open the home defence regularly after the break but that killer finish was just lacking.
Oakham reduced the deficit in the 64th minute through Adam Rothery.
Oakham United assistant manager Andrew Bailey said: “I am massively disappointed with today. Our lads did not turn up first half and we found ourselves 3-0 down after 30-35 minutes.
“I have to take my hat off to Thorney because they have done superbly well today they have bossed the game, certainly for the first 45 minutes, absolutely bossed us.
Second half we have tried to have a go at it.
“We were a lot better in the second half but still not perfect. I think there are quite a few of our lads who need to have a look at their performance today.
