Moreman scores on his debut

Mildenhall 2 Deeping Rangers 3

NEW signing Josh Moreman fired a debut goal as Rangers got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start on Saturday.

Striker Mark Jones also bagged a double for Tuncay Korkmaz’s side, who are expected to be among the frontrunners in a strong UCL Premier Division line-up this campaign.

Deeping used 18 players, with only Kev Gilbert and Matty Evans unavailable to play – and Korkmaz was happy with the work-out.

He said: “It was a good exercise for the lads and was nice to win too.

“It’s all about getting the squad settled and we need to work on a formation.

“We have got a lot of new lads at the club and it’ll take time to get them all settled.”

The three newest additions are speedy wing ace Moreman, midfielder David Burton-Jones and defender Steve Julian.

Moreman penned a deal with Deeping after leaving rivals Peterborough Northern Star, while Burton-Jones returns to the club after scoring 17 goals for Blackstones last season.

Towering defender Julian, a former Spalding United player, boasts a UCL Premier Division winners medal after his spell with S & L Corby.

Korkmaz admits the trio will end his summer signing spree.

The Deeping player and boss said: “I rate Josh highly and he is blessed with something you cannot buy or coach in his natural pace.

“I would think he is the quickest player around here and that speed alone will be a big asset to us.

“We are delighted to have David back at Deeping. He was terrific last season for Blackstones when he scored a great number of goals from midfield including a couple of crackers against ourselves.

“And Steve’s arrival gives another boost to our defensive options. It was an area we needed to strengthen as a priority this summer and we’ve done it.

“The squad is looking pretty good now and I have no plans to bring in any more players at the moment.”

Deeping are due to play a second friendly at Ely City tomorrow (3pm) with Coates visting on Tuesday (7pm).

Rangers’ league season begins on August 13 with a home tie against newly-promoted Thrapston Town.
