Stamford 1 Quorn 0
DAN Cotton set Stamford back on the winning trail as they put one over former boss Dougie Keast.
The current crop of Daniels aces were too meaty for Keast’s Quorn side at the Vic Couzens Stadium on Saturday when Cotton’s high-class strike earned a first win in four matches.
Cotton collected a Jamie Clarke flick in the 27th minute, raced past two defenders and fired into the bottom corner.
Clarke should have doubled the lead when firing straight at visiting keeper Matt Nurse in a one-on-one situation and Stamford were left breathing a sigh of relief when Quorn sub Ben Easson – a former Daniels youngster – fired wide with virtually the last kick of the game.
Assistant manager Pat Rayment said: “We needed a win and deserved it - Dan’s goal was worthy of winning any match. We need a spark to kick our season off again and hopefully this result can provide it.”
Star turn Lee Beeson returned from a hamstring injury as a second-half substitute and striker Simon Mowbray was also used as a replacement after being recalled from a loan spell at UCL side Holbeach.
Stamford: Wright, Evans, Jackson, Malone, Chamberlain, Cotton, Toyne, Millson (Burkett), Adams, Battersby (Beeson), Clarke (Mowbray). Unused: Walton, King.
