Coalville Town ended Stamford’s euphoria after Saturday’s cup win, handing the Daniels a 1-0 defeat in the league on Tuesday.
The loss is Stamford’s first away from home this season.
Stamford manager Graham Drury had been forced into several changes due to suspensions and injuries and said: “We knew it would be difficult. The lads did well considering the changes that we had to make.”
Danny Brooks and Michael Jacklin were suspended, and the injury list included skipper Richard Jones who is also doubtful for tomorrow’s game at home to Sheffield FC.
“You do not want to face the leaders with so many missing,” said Drury.
Tuesday’s game was scrappy with free kicks disrupting the game throughout, and it was from a dead ball that Danny Jenno broke the deadlock just after the hourmark.
Andy hall came closest to levelling with a strike that was deflected onto the bar.
Drury said: “That was one of the best saves I have seen.”
Tomorrow’s match at Kettering Road kicks off at 3pm.
