The Daniels are now ready for three tough final tests as they build up to the start of the Evo-Stik League season and life at a higher level.
Stamford breezed past Holbeach United at Kettering Road on Saturday, winning 6-0 with Jno Challinor on target, four goals from Jordan Smith and an own-goal more than enough to see off last season’s United Counties League champions.
Holbeach have lost many of their title-wining stars over the summer and Daniels boss David Staff, whose pre-season run is now three wins and a draw, admitted: “It felt a bit false. It was nice for Jordan to score a few goals but they were a little under-strength.”
Stamford’s next three matches are at Evo-Stik Southern League Central Division side Rugby Town on Saturday followed by home matches against Conference sides Corby Town and Kettering on August 7 and 10.
“Rugby lost in their play-offs and will be a good test,” said Staff.
“All three will be real tests. The intensity will be faster and I think that’s what the lads need now.”
The Daniels boss added: “The starting XI is not set in stone. It’s up to the lads to prove themselves but we know what personnel work in which systems. It’s coming together.
“If there were to be any changes to the squad now it would need to be someone who could significantly strengthen us.”
Stamford (starting XI v Holbeach): Pearson, Walker, Haines, Batchelor, Jones, Burgess, Richards, Robinson Smith, Hempenstall, Wesley.
