Deeping Rangers opened up a seven-point gap to boost their bid for runners-up spot.

The Clarets have recorded six wins out of seven in all competitions since the 4-1 defeat at champions-elect Peterborough Sports last month.

Goals from David Burton-Jones, Charlie Coulson, Scott Mooney and Tom Waumsley earned Saturday’s victory at Wellingborough Town.

Boss Michael Goode said: “We keep meeting teams who have improved recently and Wellingborough had won four in a row at home.

“It was just a case of getting three points and then seeing what happens around us.

“We have to look after ourselves but other results went in our favour so we couldn’t have asked for any better.

“It was a satisfying win – although we probably weren’t at our best.

“Having missed chances in the six-yard box at home to Yaxley last week, it was vital to back up that point with a win.

“Burton-Jones slotted home in the first three minutes but we were a little bit fortunate to stay 1-0 up because they had periods of pressure.

“Wellingborough are a strong, robust side who will take a lot of points off other teams.

“Just before half-time, we went 2-0 up as Scott Coupland squared for Coulson and that gave us a cushion.

“With our defensive record, I couldn’t see us losing the game at that stage so I was happy.

“Mooney made it 3-0 at the start of the second half from Dan Schiavi’s 30-yard pass and Waumsley got our fourth goal after they had pulled one back.

“I thought their lad dived for a penalty which made it 4-2 but we managed to give a run-out to our substitutes as well and then we got the bonus of seeing the other results coming in.”
