AN own goal, late in stoppage time, cost The Daniels two points and their position in the play-off places on Saturday.

Robbie Maddox turned into his own net to cancel out Bruno Holden’s 75th minute strike and drop Stamford one point behind rivals Leek Town, who won 2-1 at Sutton Coldfield.

Ryan Whitehurst made an impressive Daniels debut cracking a shot against the crossbar and teeing up Holden’s goal.

Daniels boss Tommy Brookbanks strengthened his injury-ravaged squad with the arrival of Tyrone Kirk, who has been released by Boston United.

Stamford’s push for promotion continues at fourth-placed Sheffield FC tomorrow evening with a 7.45pm kick-off.
