Oakham United Reserves lost 4-2 in the quarter final of the ChromaSport Intermediate Shield after a hard-fought match in which they had to claw their way back from being three goals behind.
Oakham started poorly and found themselves 1-0 down after only two minutes and 2-0 down with only five minutes on the clock.
They tried to get back into the game, but could not really create any chances early on. Then, to make matters even worse, they found themselves 3-0 down after only 20 minutes.
The third goal seemed to spur Oakham into action. The three best chances fell to Jamie Saddington as he got in behind the defence but, he saw his first two efforts sail over the crossbar. Before he could shoot a third time, he was fouled for a penalty.
Will Lee stepped up, but saw his strike saved.
After the break Oakham pulled a goal back after two minutes when Saddington hit a low drive into the far corner. Dion Joyce scored again for Oakham, beautifully curling an effort into the top corner.
However Peterborough scored a fourth with a header from a corner with 20 minutes left.
