The win was a great way to kick off life at the club’s new ground in Barleythorpe.

Oakham United were made to wait for their second match of the league season after they were let down late in the day on Saturday.

Oakham were due to play their first competitive game at their new ground on Saturday but opponents Leverington Sports pulled out just hours before kick off.

Oakham United got off to the best possible start to the new PDFL Premier Division league season with a 5-2 away win at heavily fancied Coates Athletics, who have formed up with Whittlesey United during the off-season to become a local football “super club”

Oakham will look to keep their good form going when they host Netherton United tomorrow, who are one of the league’s strongest sides and will test their credentials.
