HIGHER League opposition finally got the better of Deeping Rangers in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Rangers, who had previously seen off Evo-Stik League sides Belper Town and New Mills, were beaten 2-0 by Leek Town.
A 225-strong crowd watched history being made at Outgang Road as Rangers appeared in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time ever.
Rangers held their own throughout the majority of the game with several good chances created but not taken.
Danny Roberts in the Leek goal was forced to make several excellent saves but this wasn’t Rangers’ day. Matt Haddrell opened the scoring after 13 minutes, knocking the ball in from close range and Devon Gibson scored with a looping effort on 77 minutes.
Josh Moreman, Mark Jones and Tony Batterby all went close but Rangers cup run is over.
Now they turn their attention back to league matters with the visit of third-placed Kings Lynn tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. Kick-off at outgang Road is at 7.45pm.
