Peterboro NS 1 - 3Deeping Rangers
DEEPING Rangers followed up an impressive second-half turnaround at Yaxley on Saturday with an excellent win at Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday evening.
Rangers were 1-0 at half-time at Yaxley but improved their game in the second half to score four times without reply after the break.
Alex Beck, playing in the place of absent Michael Byrne, took his chance to stake a claim for a regular starting role with a hat-trick while Simon Ashton added his name to the scoresheet in a dominant second half display.
Beck was on target again on Tuesday, along with Ciaran Holt and Matt Heron.
It was an intriguing match at Chestnut Avenue, with an opening half that was full of blood and thunder.
Nick Jackson came to Rangers’ rescue as early as the fifth minute, clearing off the goalline, and Chris Logan who performed the same duty when Nick Davey shot in from a tight angle.
However on the quarter hour mark, and from a free kick deep within their own half, Rangers opened the scoring with Holt netting from close range after a low cross from the right.
The visitors didn’t have the lead for long, however, as the lively Davey swept the ball home to level the scores after 20 minutes.
From that point on the game was pretty much even with good football from both sides and it looked as if the sides would go in all square at half-time. But in the 45th minute Beck found himself space to fire Rangers back in front.
The second had failed to live up to the standards of first but on the hour mark, Ashton made way for Heron, and on 70 minutes he killed the game off, rising to head home a corner from Harry Deane, who had an excellent game wide on the right.
This latest win takes Rangers up to third in the United Counties League Premier Division after four games.
Deeping Rangers: James Doughty, Lawrence Lambley, Nick Jackson, Chris Logan, Steve Julian, Simon Ashton (Matt Heron), Harry Deane, David Burton-Jones, Alex Beck (Michael Byrne), Ciaran Holt, Kev Brader (Jonny Hands): Subs not used: Spencer Tinkler, Tom Waumsley.
RANGERS recovered from Ondre Odain’s opener at Yaxley to score four in am impreeisve second half display in Saturday.
Assistant manager Simon Dethick, who was in charge in the absence of Tuncay Korkmaz, gave substitute Ciaran Holt a lot of the credit.
Holt came on for the injured Spencer Tinkler and Dethick switched to a more attacking shape.
He said: “We were poor in the first half and James Doughty kept us in it with a couple of great saves. When Ciaran came on we changed things around and it worked for us.”
