A record 104 teams competed in Bourne Town Juniors’ annual six-a-side tournament at the weekend.
An estimated 2,500 young players and spectators attended over the two days with teams from U9s to U15s competing in knock-out contests and younger children playing friendly matches.
Bourne Juniors FC secretary Rick Bishell said: “Tournament organisers Andy and Dawn Hammond, and Steve Moss along with a dedicated team of committee members, coaches, players and their families have all done a superb job to put on another hugely successful event.”
The tournament attracted teams from eight counties and Bishell added: “There was a record number of players in the U6 age group this year, which is great for the tournament and for grassroots football in general.
“We were also very privileged to be able to welcome the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, treating everyone to a spectacular triple-circuit flypast on both days.”
He thanked everyone who supported this year’s event and urged anyone interested in joining the club, either as a player or as a volunteer, to contact the club.
