A ROTARIAN was one of 10 lucky football fans to meet England’s new manager.
Rotary Club of Stamford St Martins member George Hetherington was among the Club Wembley members drawn in a ballot to attend Roy Hodgson’s announcement of the England squad for this summer’s European Championships on Wednesday.
George, a Newcastle United fan, got to watch the press conference, tour the changing rooms and chat to the former West Brom boss.
He said: “I congratulated him and talked to him about the press. He said he was fully aware they would turn against him at some point and he took the job knowing it.
“The squad isn’t as adventurous as I thought it might be but he said he had picked a lot of the people who got the team into the finals.
“He also said he had spoken to Kenny Dalglish about Andy Carroll and his attitude.”
