Ryhall United suffered defeat at the hands of Stanground for the second time in three weeks, this time by 3-1 away in the PDFL Division One.
Ryhall’s injury jinx continued as Eddy Pentney limped from the field after just 20 minutes of action to join Greg Dunn, Joe Lippett, Michael Webb, Tom Hutton and Tom Dunn on the injury list along with the suspended Jack Travers, in United’s depleted squad.
Ryhall started the game well and when Ryan Brown was bought down in the area with 10 minutes gone they had the perfect chance to take the lead.
But Chris McRoyal saw his well struck penalty excellently saved as the chance went begging.
McRoyal soon made amends when only minutes later his pinpoint corner has headed home by Barry Burton.
Ryhall were in control and threatened to double their lead, Ben Dickinson saw his goal-bound effort well saved before Jake Walton was also denied by good handling from the Stanground Keeper.
The second half saw a change in the tide of the game, as Stanground equalised on the hour mark. A clever dummy on the edge of the box opened up a chance and a quickly taken shot found the back of the net.
To their credit both sides went on the attack wanting to win the game. McRoyal had an effort tipped over the cross bar before Brown sent a low drive wide.
It was end-to-end football and both defences were stretched and it proved costly for United as a low cross found an unmarked Stanground midfielder who blasted his shot home without mistake.
Ryhall committed players forward in a desperate search to level but the dangers of getting caught were always evident and so it proved as Stanground raced forward on the counter to add their third goal and kill off any chance of a fight back.
Ryhall play Ashby Ivanhoe in the Leicestershire FA Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
