DEEPING Rangers were dumped out of the Hitchingbrooke Cup by lower league opposition at the semi-final stage on Tuesday evening.

UCL First Division side Kempston Rovers beat Premier Division Rangers 3-1.

Mark Jones scored for Rangers, who were reduced to ten men when Kris Jones saw red.

A BRACE of goals from wide man Mark Jones earned Deeping all three points at Kiln Park, as Rangers completed a treble over the Shopmates for this season.

The first half was a dour affair, as both sides huffed and puffed without showing any signs of scoring.

After the break it was a different story and as the young Raunds players started to tire, Rangers took a stranglehold on the game.

Jones nodded home the opening goal and from that point in the game there was only going to be one winner, as the visitors were virtually camped in the Raunds half.

Kevin Gilbert caused problems for the Raunds defence with his piercing runs, which allowed him to mount an aerial assault on the Raunds goal.

Jones scored his second with his feet and only an athletic display from the Raunds keeper denied him a hat-trick.
