Ricky Miller scored five as Stamford put eight past a hapless Hucknall side to re-ignite the Daniels’ push for a play-off spot.

Hucknall have struggled all season and the visitors to Kettering Road were the perfect opposition for Stamford after a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Sheffield on Satuday.

Tom Byrne, Richard Jones and Ben Saunders were also on the scoresheet as the Daniels cruised home despite being left to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men after James Ozmen was forced off injured.

Stamford took the lead in the 6th minute when Miller flicked the ball behind the Hucknall defence for Byrne to lob the ball over the keeper from the edge of the penalty area.

They were two up on 13 minutes. Robbie Maddox played in Miller and he showed great strength to hold off a defender and shoot low under the keeper. Miller made it three after 27 minutes, picking up Jordan Hempenstall’s early pass to fire underneath the keeper.

Shaun Richards went close soon afterwards, with a curling effort that crashed back off the post and then the keeper, leading to an almighty scramble before the ball was cleared. Sam Watkins was next to go close. A cross by Miller found Watkins whose shot was superbly saved by Michael Yates.

Skipper Richard Jones headed Stamford’s fourth from Byrne’s free kick and a minute later Miller completed a first-half hat-trick with from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the box.

The Daniels made it six, four minutes into the second half. Ben Saunders rolled the ball into the centre where Hempenstall hit a looping shot from 25 yards that came back off the bar with Saunders quickest to react and head it in.

Stamford’s seventh came in the 53rd minute with Ben Saunders trying his luck from 30 yards. His shot came back off the bar for Miller to head home from close range.

Ash Cheetham had Hucknall’s first attempt on goal midway through the second half with a cheeky attempt from the centre circle that in no way troubled Matt Finlay who was almost a spectator for the entire game.

Hucknall’s only other real attacking attempt came soon after a long ball through to Jason Dawson saw him race clear only to be denied by a great tackle from Sam Saunders.

Miller and Danny Brooks both tested Yates from distance before Miller rounded the night off with his fifth and Stamford’s eighth, heading home after Jones had nodded back Dan Marshall’s perfect cross.

Stamford: Matt Finlay, Sean Wright, Sam Saunders, Robbie Maddox, Richard Jones, Sam Watkins (James Ozmen), Tom Byrne (Dan Marshall), Jordan Hempenstall (Danny Brooks), Ricky Miller, Ben Saunders, Shawn Richards. Subs: Andy Hall, Jon Swales.

Att: 142
