BLACKSTONES travel to Holwell Sports for an FA Vase tie tomorrow, determined to put back-to-back league defeats behind them.

Stones, who have enjoyed a storming start to the United Counties League Premier Division season, played well in both games but lost 2-1 at home to Newport Pagnell on Saturday and then 3-1 at one of the title favourites, King’s Lynn, on Tuesday evening.

Joint manager Darren Jarvis said: “Although it’s two losses, there were lots of positives from both games and we are still full of confidence. We didn’t deserve to beat Pagnell but I think we deserved a point and it was similar on Tuesday.”

Stones were trailing Lynn 2-1 until the final minutes and had a Michael Nelson goal ruled out for a disputed offside.

Jarvis said: “Even their left back said he was playing Michael onside.

“Playing those sides in four days was interesting. You could not find more different styles.

“Pagnell are a big, strong, direct side whereas King’s Lynn play the ball well and are very good footballers.”

A coach to take supporters to Holwell will leave Lincoln Road at 12.45pm tomorrow with a few places remaining.
