Holwell Sports 3 Blackstones 1
BLACKSTONES were knocked out of the FA Vase by Holwell Sports on a rare off-day last Saturday.
Stones were simply not at the races against lower league opposition.
A goal late in the first half from James Kirby gave Holwell a deserved lead and Stones fared little better after the break.
The introduction of Steve Burns with 20 minutes remaining sharpened the Stamford side’ play and soon after they clawed their way back from the penalty spot after Liam Buttery was brought down in the area.
The Holwell keeper was sent off and Michael Nelson calmly slotted home.
But with four minutes to go, poor defending allowed Holwell’s Paul Smedley to score a second and in the dying seconds Crockett brought down the on-rushing Holwell forward for a penalty that Dom Hallows dispatched to make the final score 3-1.
Blackstones: Lee Crockett, Jacob Smitheringale, Tom Davies, Matt Porter, Luke Hunnings, Andy Boome (Ben Easson), Luke Avis, Pete Smith (Steve Burns), Liam Buttery (Wayne Oldaker), Michael Nelson, Ben Porter.
