Strikers hit hat-tricks as Oakham show no mercy

Oakham United slammed seven past struggling King’s Cliffe to record their first victory since late November on Saturday.

Nathan Arkle and Alex Brockbank both scored hat-tricks with Jamie Forbes also on the scoresheet as Oakham won 7-1 away from home.

“I feel for them a bit,” admitted Oakham’s joint boss Andy Saddington.

“They are struggling but we still had to score the goals.

Oakham were 4-1 up at half-time with Arkle having ended his recent barren run with a three first-half strikes.

Arkle’s slotted the opening goal home from inside the penalty area after collecting a well-weighted through ball and Cliffe were caught twice more by similar moves.

Brockbank had made it four before Cliffe pulled one back before the break and the Oakham striker rounded off his hat-trick with two second-half goals either side of Forbes’ headed goal.

“It was nice for both centre-forwards to score a hat-trick but we could have had more,” added Saddington.

“Alex’s second was a great finish. He took it first time on the turn.

“It was a decent performance all round. Now we have to take that into the Leverington game on Saturday. They are a bit of a bogey side for us. We will have to be at our best.”

Oakham’s management will be forced into changes however with Craig Welbourn, Stu Lambie and top-scorer Arkle all unavailable this weekend.

Saturday’s game kicks of at Catmose College at 2pm.

Oakham: Shane Hicks, Craig Welbourn (Ben Jones), Tom Bain, Jamie Forbes, Stu Lambie, Anthony Wells, Eddie McDonald, Robbie Dance, Steve Smith (Liam Mullineaux), Alex Brockbank, Nathan Arkle.
