Thurlby Tigers under-10s clinched their FA Peterborough Junior Alliance league title with a convincing 4-1 home win over Boston United.
The Tigers went into the game knowing that just a single point from their remaining four games would be enough to give them the championship.
The game started nervously with a number of good chances for Thurlby going agonisingly wide, before Alex Sinfield ran from well inside his own half, beating three players before slotting the ball into the net to give Thurlby the opening goal. Despite Thurlby dominating possession and missing a further run of good chances, a resilient Boston scored a long-range equaliser to leave the game all even at the break.
It was more like business as usual for Thurlby in the opening minutes of the second half as Harry Cole beat two players down the right, before crossing to Lenny Lock to pass the ball into an empty net. Lenny then turned provider by crossing to Alfie Woodward who scored from six yards out to give the Tigers some breathing space. In the last five minutes Alex Sinfield scored his second of the game to complete the scoring.
The 4-1 win guarantees Thurlby top spot. Manager John Sinfield said: “The boys have put in a lot of hard work and really deserve to win the league. Their performances as a team have improved as the season has progressed and they have been a pleasure to watch.”
